Qualifications
Education:
- Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited faculty of Library/Information Science.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year experience of curating and developing collections.
Overall Purpose:
This role oversees digital resource and collection development for the library, working with the Collections Manager, Digital Resource & Collections staff, and other departments to facilitate access to resources. Through understanding and the interpretation of collection use data and performance metrics, this position drives sound decision making in the library’s resources and collections. This role adheres to the budget control and procurement functions for the Library’s materials budget. It also advances BPL’s inclusive, sustainable, and user-focused collections.
Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with Collections staff, Customer Experience staff, Marcom & Community Librarians to build and curate resource collections that appeal to and/or address the needs, problems or aspirations of all customer segments
- Ensure the effective use of the Library’s budgets for materials, monitoring throughout the year and meeting customer needs
- Manage relationships with key vendors
- Use various ILS analytical tools to administer and assess the Collection maintenance guidelines system-wide wide including float, weeding and monitoring Collection performance.
- Ensure ILS reports are provided to CE staff on demand and as needed to keep the collections current.
- Responds to Request for Reconsideration and requests for purchase forms for BPL.
- Develop and deliver in-house training for library staff related to acquisition or curation of collections
- Co-ordinate and deliver in-house training for Collections staff when required
- Act as person in charge in absence of the Manager
- Manage projects on system or department-specific initiatives, including brainstorming service initiatives and opportunities arising from emerging technology, community or library trends
- Stay current with trends in collections, including physical, digital and databases.
- Attend training and meetings as required
- Perform additional position-related accountabilities assigned by management.

Internal: Manager, Digital Resources & Collections Manager, Collections staff Library Staff including Branch Librarians and Management team.
External: Vendors including print/AV vendors and electronic database customers; local authors; and other Public Library peers; Government Agencies

Budget: $1,000,000+ materials budget
Direct and Indirect Reports: Collections staff in the absence of the Manager.

Work Environment
- The work environment is a typical office environment, with little exposure to noise, dirt, or external elements.
- Occasionally work is completed in public spaces of library branches while customers are present.
- There is mid to high computer use and frequent contact by email, MS Teams, and phone.
- Occasional travel between branches within Burlington is required (mileage paid).
Working Hours
- Work hours are generally 9am to 5pm
- BPL is a 7 days per week; hours may include weekend or evening shifts.
- Duties may require work after-hours in case of emergency situations.
Physical Effort
- Normal physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting and the use of basic motor skills
